We have just had our last weekend in America (for this trip) and as usual we tried to pack as much in as possible.
Friday night we went looking for different accommodation but there is not much close to where Kic has to go each day so it is here we stay. Day light saving started here last week so it is still light when Kic finishes work so we manage to fit in more sight seeing.
We met up with Evan on Saturday morning and went to Denny's for breakfast and then headed into downtown to find some books. At first I thought I would stay in the car, after all it was a technical bookshop, but books have a way of luring me in. Just as well as I managed to find two books for my little girls. One is a pop up book on America. Each page opens up to a paper masterpiece of an American icon eg The Golden Gate Bridge, Statue of Liberty, Mount Rushmore etc.
We then went to the strangest St Paddy's Day march I have ever seen. It started with Scottish bagpipes, Black American dancing groups, Mexican bands and a dozen or so de Lorians. I think there were some Irish in it, there was plenty of green around and everyone had fun. We wandered around downtown for an hour or so and we just had to check out Macy's before we headed back to our side of town (northwest). As our hotel is isolated I had to have some reading material and some more beads to keep me occupied during the week. We had a very good day just wandering around town.
Sunday we headed down to The Johnson Space Center (Nasa), we managed to get there ahead of the crowds so we had a very good look around. We had a tram ride through the Space Center where the astronauts are trained, sat through a couple of movies, a bus ride out to the huge pool where they train in their space suits for weightlessness. The Space Center occupies 1,600 acres and employs more than 14,000 people. A very interesting visit and well worth the time and money. As we are so close to Galveston and the bay we had to go visit. The beach there is not up to our beaches but that does not stop the locals from swimming, wandering along the boardwalk or dining in one of the hundreds of seafood restaurants.
In all we had a very pleasant weekend, but I must admit I am looking forward to going home at the end of the week. We have had a very busy visit, some good food but I sure would like some plain bread with a smear of vegemite on it. (I don't usually eat vegie) The bread here is sweet and it does not take long to tire of it.

I know what you mean about missing Vegemite! I don't eat much of it, but it was the one thing I craved while we were away. Keep up the interesting blog entries :-)
Lots of love
me xx
