We made the mistake of going out on Friday night. Dinner was at Fogo de Chao (not as good as the one in Dallas, but still very good), then we went for a few quiet drinks with Evan and Richard. At least we got to sleep in before we had to do our final bag pack and check out of the hotel. We had a very lovely late breakfast and it is just as well as it was the last decent meal we had till we arrived home. Food they serve on planes is terrible.
We left Houston about 3ish and it was a 3 hour flight to LA. The last few times Kic has travelled from the US there has been trouble with flights being delayed and the extra security that this time he decided he would prefer to spend a few quiet hours in LA before the flight home. Security is a real pain, shoes off, computers out of their bags, no liquids over 100ml just a right proper pain and always a queue. As we did not have long enough time in LA to do any sight seeing we decided to spend the time in the Qantas Club. As they are redoing the club we were put on a bus and taken across the airport to their temporary building. From the outside it just looked like a very large demountable, but inside they had really made an effort to make it comfortable and we spent a few hours sitting back sipping bubbly and nibbling yummies. We were bussed back to the terminal only to be bussed out to the remote terminal for our 11.55pm departure. We sat in the plane for about an hour before we could leave. The plane was only 75% full so we had room to stretch out, but it is still a long flight, all in darkness.. The captain managed to make up the lost time and we arrived in Brissy at the scheduled time of 6.30am Monday. We caught a taxi to Kic's office to get his car and then very carefully drove home. After 5 weeks on the other side of the road it was a bit strange but we made it safely. Oh I forgot to tell you one of our bags did not make it with us, it is somewhere out there on its ownsome. It just happened to be our new bag with all of my favourite tops, some of the presents for the family, Kic's near new razor and goodness knows what else. Our only hope is that it will tire of travelling on its own and come home.
One of our wonderful daughters took the time to put a few basics in the fridge. We feasted on grilled cheese on toast for morning tea and thoroughly enjoyed our sandwiches at lunch time. We made a quick visit to see our girls and boy before returning home to make dinner. This Jen had left for us but I was too tired to cope with cooking times so we just had a good old Aussie meat pie and veggies. When I sat down at the computer and could not think how to find my e-mails I knew it was time for bed. We had a very good sleep but I think it will take a few days before everything is back to normal.
